The NYSSPE LI Chapter would like to continue offering the monthly PDH Seminars. On Thursday April 24, James Tauby, PE of Mason Industries, Inc. will be providing an in-person seminar to discuss: Restraining Building Service Systems Against Explosive Blasts and Seismic Events. This is a great chance to reconnect with like-minded engineers and learn traditional and new technology associated with seiemic and blast concerns.
Speaker Bio:
Mr. James Tauby is Chief Executive Engineer for Mason Ind. Inc., a worldwide leader in the field of noise and vibration control products, as well as seismic, bomb blast, and wind restraint systems. He is a professional engineer in over 46 states, the District of Columbia, New Zealand, Australia and holds an International Chartered Engineers License. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama.
He regularly lectures around the world on topics ranging from Building Isolation, vibration isolation, seismic, bomb blast and wind restraint of mechanical systems to the use of elastomeric expansion joints for piping in seismic and bomb blast applications. He was a member of a team of engineers that inspected numerous buildings after the Loma Prieta, Northridge and Santiago Chile earthquakes.
He was the lead author on the ASHRAE design Publication, “Practical Guide to Seismic Restraint”. This publication includes code requirements, specification considerations, seismic restraint connection methods, along with determining whether a piece of outdoor equipment is governed by seismic or wind loads on a particular project. He is the chairman of ASHRAE’s standard committee SPC 171 – “Method of testing for rating seismic and wind restraints”.
