2026 ENGINEERS WEEK

The NYSSPE LI Chapter would like to continue offering the monthly PDH Seminars. On Wednesday January 14, Rich Smith of Rathe Associates will be providing an in-person seminar to discuss: Commercial Heat Pump Piping Considerations. This is a great chance to reconnect with like-minded engineers and learn about the strategies associated with heat pump pipng.

Seminar Summary:
The seminar will offer two PDH credits for a two (2) hour presentation summarized below:
Recent advances in technology have improved the techniques associated with the use of Heat Pumps. This seminar will discuss the ways to heat water using commercial heat pumps and the differences between single pass and multi-pass storage systems.

Speaker Bios:
Rich Smith Started at Manhattan College in Computer /Electrical Engineering.
After Working as a Sales Engineer for Absolute Pump and Filtration for 8 years he continued his Education. He later graduated from NYACK College with a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management
With a Wide-Ranging Experience over 37 years from Industrial Production Plants to Military Electrical Test and Computer Science. Wireless Telecommunications to Heat and Refrigeration, Controls, and system design. Each Industry Learning and Developing many years.
Current Position at Rathe Associates as a Sales Engineer designing DHW Heat Pumps, Electric Boiler, Gas Boilers, Hydronic Systems Cooling and Heating, Caleffi, Rehau Radiant Solutions, Armstrong Building and System Pumps for Chillers and Process fluids.
Currently Serving as an ASHRAE LI Board Member as Treasurer and Chair of the Government Affairs Committee, has brought me right here, today, to Energy Efficiency, Hydronic Design and Refrigerants.
Rich has also been a Member of IEEE 2008-2016 serving on several subchapters and committees.
Computer Society, PELS, RF/Microwave, Photonics, EMC, Renewable Energy(PELS). ASSE, ASPE.
