The NYSSPE LI Chapter would like to continue offering the monthly PDH Seminars. On Tuesday July 1, Christopher Bruno, PE will be providing an in-person seminar to discuss: An Overview of the Energy & Utilities Division at Brookhaven National Laboratories This is a great chance to reconnect with like-minded engineers and learn traditional and new technology associated with lighting controls and submetering.

Seminar Summary:
The seminar will offer two PDH credits for one in-depth topic to be presented by the Manager of Energy & Utilities at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The presentation will be: An Overview of the Energy & Utilities Division at Brookhaven National Laboratories. The Energy & Utilities Division operates and maintains BNL’s electrical distribution system, site fire alarm system, central steam facility, potable water treatment facility, wastewater treatment facility, and building electrical systems. The seminar will discuss the different systems throughout the campus wide facility.

Speaker Bios:
Mr. Christopher Bruno has been employed at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) for 14 years and serves as the Energy & Utilities Division Manager within the Facilities and Operations Directorate. Currently, he oversees the daily operations and maintenance of site-wide electrical distribution systems; fire alarm detection systems; central steam facility; steam distribution system; central chilled water facility; potable water treatment plant and distribution system; and the sewage treatment plant, along with the sanitary collection gravity and forced sewer mains. Chris administers a team of 110 highly dedicated staff which includes 23 professional staff and 87 collective bargaining staff that keep all the Lab’s utility services mission ready.
Prior to his employment at BNL, Chris was the Assistant Chief Engineer at the largest groundwater supplier water utility in the nation. During his 15-year tenure he was responsible for the design of all electrical systems for pumping stations, booster systems, filtration systems, back-up generation, and communication systems. Before that, he worked 10 years as the Chief Engineer for an electrical contractor where he designed and managed the field installation of electrical control systems for boilers, gas turbines, boiler feed systems, fuel transfer systems, and diverse types of coating, slitting, and mixing machinery.
Chris is a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York State (NYS). He has earned a Master of Engineering in Power Transmission & Distribution System Engineering, a Master of Business Administration in Corporate Finance, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In addition, Chris is a New York State licensed Code Enforcement Official and holds NYS Department of Health Grade IB and D licenses to operate and manage a groundwater-based water treatment plant and potable water distribution system
